Alpha

The beginning; the First Principle from which all things proceed.  Alpha and omega represent the totality, the beginning and the end; like the Hindu aum they symbolize the entire range of sounds, also infinity.  Alpha and omega are sometimes portrayed by the eagle and owl, day and night, and in Christianity they appear with the cross and the Chi-Rho.
