Fox

A representative of guile - a symbolism soundly based on its cleverness but often extended, notably in European tradition, to more discreditable qualities - malice hypocrisy, evil.  As a nocturnal predator difficult to trap, the fox became a Christian analogy for the wiles of the Devil.  In North America the fox was a morally neutral trickster figure, not unlike the coyote.  Erotic associations appear in Chinese folk superstitions where "fox-women" were considered dangerous seducers and a fox's testicles were reputedly an aphrodisiac.  Cunning and powers of transformation were also symbolic associations in Japan.
