The raspy-voiced singer's atmospheric #1 smash, "Bette Davis Eyes," was co-written by Jackie DeShannon. Carnes was once a member of the New Christy Minstrels with Kenny Rogers, who gave her welcome exposure in 1980 with their duet "Don't Fall in Love with a Dreamer."
