Lizard A lunar creature; the humid principle; believed to be tongueless and subsist on dew, the lizard was a symbol of silence. In Egyptian and Greek symbolism it represented divine wisdom and good fortune and was an attribute of Serapis and Hermes; in Zoroastrianism and Christianity it was a symbol of evil. In Roman mythology it was supposed to sleep through the winter and so symbolized death and resurrection. From: An Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Traditional Symbols (J.C. Cooper) [The lizard's acute sensitivity to movement, vibrations, etc] give it a symbolism associated with the psychic and the intuitive. The ability to perceive subtle movement--physical and ethereal, waking or sleeping--is what lizard medicine teaches. To some within the Native American tradition, the lizard is associated with dreamtime. Dreams contain some of the subtlest perceptions of the mind of which we may not be conscious. From Animal-Speak by Ted Andrews, Llewellyn Publications, 1997 A part of yourself that is 'cold' blooded and needs warmth. From - Dream Dictionary. |
