Tuileries/Seine

Former royal palace in Paris on the Seine River; begun about 1564 by Catherine de Médicis; Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI besieged here before they were removed to prison and guillotined; destroyed by mob during Commune of Paris 1871; famous gardens are now a public park.   From: Compton's Encyclopedia Online
