[There is a] category of tales that the cantadoras y cuentistas. . call temblon, shiver stories.  These overtly entertain, but are meant to cause listeners to experience a shiver of awareness that leads to thoughtfulness, contemplation, and action.  Regardless of the shifting motifs within the story over time, the theme remains the same: the destruction of the fertile feminine.
