Vine

One of the oldest symbols of natural fecundity in the ancient Near East - and a still more important symbol of spiritual life and regeneration in both the pagan and Christian worlds.  "I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower," says Christ in the Gospel of St. John (15:1).  The vine becomes a spiritual symbol of regeneration and, in the Eucharist, the fermented juice of its grapes is Christ's blood.   From: Dictionary of Symbols (Tresidder)
