Wanderer

The lonely wanderer is a common image across all genres of literature, and in science fiction this image has its manifestations as well.  The wanderer is the opposite of the pilgrim; the first is aimless, the second directed.  In Buddhism, the wandering man is one who is caught in a cycle of birth and death until enlightenment is achieved, thus attaining the motionless center.  Information taken from:   Online Symbolism Dictionary
