White White is the color of the new, the pure, the pristine. It is also the color of soul free of the body, of spirit unencumbered by the physical. It is the color of the essential nourishment, mother's milk. Conversely, it is the color of the dead, of things which have lost their rosiness, their flush of vitality. When there is white, everything is, for the moment, tabula rasa, unwritten upon. White is a promise that there is nourishment enough for things to begin anew, that the emptiness or the void would be filled. The above excerpt is from "Women Who Run With the Wolves" by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Ph.D. - a fabulous and highly recommended book! White may be defined either as the absence of all color or the presence of all colors of the light spectrum, and can represent either innocence or the ultimate goal of purification. White is often the heavenly, while black is the underworld. It is light, air, life, holiness, love, redemption. The white flag is a symbol of surrender or friendship.
